Part 2: Top quick, easy (and occasionally dirty) Central takeaway haunts for the workaholic

Central is a Foodie hub with so many great restaurants, so much so that another top takeaway list for the workaholic was warranted. If you didn’t catch our first list check it out here.

Kikusan

This Central favourite always has a long queue and we can see why. Choices are a serving of rice with 2 mains such as mapodofu or mixed veggie stir fry for a mere 65 HKD! There is also a sushi counter for those craving Japanese. Sit down is also a good option as the space is fairly large and they manage to turn over tables efficiently.

The Big Ferdinand

This French burger joint boasts quality ingredients such as their hormone and additive free meat and good quality French cheese, topped with the perfect bun is just magic. Their little combo which includes a burger, serving of fries with their homemade mayo or ketchup and a drink comes in at 170 HKD. A little steep for just a burger and when McDonald’s is very close by, its hard to see the appeal but the taste cannot compare.

O’Casa

This popular Taiwanese restaurant offers very reasonable set lunch dishes for under 80 HKD including a drink. The menu continually changes so you will not get bored with the offerings here. The space is quite tiny and always packed for lunch so takeaway is a good option to sample the authentic Taiwanese dishes.

Ms. 100

Grab some healthy takeaway at this Korean hot spot on Shelley Street. Their supermeal set includes a box of kale and beansprouts, meat (your choice of beef, pork, spicy chicken or braised kimchi) with either brown or white rice or quinoa for 88 HKD.

They also have fresh juices available in case you get the fiery chicken like I did!

Gimbap and bibimbap are also available at the chiller cabinet and there is a small bar area to sit and people watch.

Healthy chicken

This tiny takeaway store has become a post workout favourite for me. Tailor make your wraps or lunch boxes with a choice of veg, chicken or salmon, choose your rice, salad, cheese and beans. What makes it so great is that you can choose which part of the chicken to suit your tastes. All their chicken comes from South America in case you are worried about quality ‘no China chicken..’ as their sign says.

Fresca

As the name suggests, this place offers FRESH, Asian inspired salads made daily and advertised on their site. Their dishes change daily so you get enough variety, not just a boring salad! Add your base of red rice and/or salad with dishes such as Korean style tofu, roasted vegetables, Vietnamese noodle salad, coleslaw and more. Their regular size gives you a choice of 3 dishes at 70 HKD and their large size offers a choice of 4 dishes at 90 HKD. We are big fans of their soup of the day too!

Flaming Frango

This hole in the wall joint offers the closest thing to Nando’s with their Portugese style piri piri chicken that has been marinated in the chef’s ‘secret sauce’ for 24 hours. Veggies don’t despair, there are also meat free sets to keep you satisfied. Set lunches start from a mere 78 HKD for daily soup (usually chicken), main and drink. This place is definitely the best value for money!
