Whenever making my way down to Sheung wan, I have often passed this PACKED brunch spot. The only other action going on at Po Hing Fong is at Mana café and Café deadend, so I was intrigued about what made this place so special.
There is limited indoor seating with the bulk of their chairs in a lane for al fresco dining. On a cool November day before a hike to the peak, this was perfect!
Their signature dish is their pancakes (although they do have burgers and sandwiches on the menu), traditionally coming in a stack of 3 thick layers to share. The waitress gave us great recommendations and was extremely helpful. She suggested I go for the Earl grey pancake with the Hokkaido milk ice cream instead of their berry. My friend was suggested the Cocoa and Hershey pancake which she told us had very good quality chocolate and isn’t too sweet.
To wash this down, we ordered their blend of black and green tea and the cold peach tea. Both were absolutely delicious and went well with our pancakes.
As we were to have a stack each, the waitress recommended 2 layers instead of 3 and that they add more fruits. She was certainly right as we struggled to finish it all.
The earl grey pancake had a subtle tea flavour and was just sweet enough. The Hokkaido ice cream perfectly complemented the pancake flavour and I loved every mouthful.
The Cocoa pancake was dark and rich, if you like dark chocolate this is definitely the pancake for you. The consistency of both pancakes were perfect, although very thick, they soaked up the ice cream.
Verdict: I would definitely come back to 3rd space for a relaxed Sunday brunch with the great atmosphere and helpful service. The only thing I would suggest is that they introduce credit card payments and Wifi or at least some magazines (it is a café after all!)
