CIAK – All Day Italian

I still have yet to try Umberto Bombana’s three Michelin starred restaurant (Otto e Mezzo Bombana) so the next best thing (and cheaper option!) was CIAK – All Day Italian recently opened in Tai Koo.

I got there for happy hour 5pm-8pm on a Saturday and saw in the menu that snacks would be served with the drinks but when ordering and asking what snacks were offered I found out that it only applies to the self-service side of the restaurant. They should probably have some mention of this even if it is in small print as the table next to me was talking about it too.

The self-service side was more like order at the counter and collect when you order is called out but only for a limited number of dishes (pasta and pizza).

The warm bread served on arrival was so tasty (even if it is just bread)!  Going straight for the mains we had Eggplant Parmigiana and a mix of 2 toppings in a 7 inch pizza. There’s the choice of a larger 9 inch pizza as well for all toppings.

Eggplant Parmigiana had a generous amount of cheese nicely melted between the layers of eggplant with a rich cheesy tomato based sauce.
The pizza toppings we chose were parma ham and spicy salame.

Verdict: Good sized portions, bread refills, food was quick to arrive despite an almost full restaurant. Our bill came to $550 for 2 dishes and 2 glasses of wine which is reasonable for a satisfying meal – we were so stuffed we didn’t have space for dessert! Would come back to try the pasta and dessert.
