A Hidden Silver Room

I usually like to get off one stop earlier on my way home and one day I took a different route and stumble across Silver Room located on Tsing Fung Street in Tin Hau.

At first glance you’d think it was a workshop entrance with its industrial-looking steel door panels, then taking a closer look through one of the opened panels, you’ll see a modern and intimate setting.

The menu display on the wall infront was a design of its own, very minimal and cool – I was definitely intregued by the exterior.

Remembering this place, I thought I’d try it out on the weekend . The menu is simple and easy to read, changing every season depending on the ingredients sourced personally by the Japanese chef who opened Silver Room a year ago. There are  2 set menus (2 course, including coffe/tea), one focusing on pasta ($120) and one for meat/fish ($200).

Here’s what we tried:

Seasonal Salad with Apple Vinegarette – a good salad nothing out of the ordinary
Vegetable Soup – slightly too salty for my liking but good flavours
Lamb Ragu Spaghetti – tender lamb, al dente spaghetti
Duck Breast with Red Wine & Black Fig Sauce – the sweet fig sauce goes well with savoury duck but may not be pink enough for some.

After our mains, coffee was served along with these very cute home made cookies included in the set. Our waiter Diffy, kindly served us their mint chocolate brownie on the house!
Talking to Diffy about the chef, Japanese food, ingredients sourcing, showed us his knowledge in Silver Room’s food and enthusiam, and  it’s the small intimate restaurants with food loving staff that make the experience all the more enjoyable.

Verdict: A lesser know, great little hidden restaurant in Tin Hau to get you out of those usual Central locations. Less noticeable Japanese influence on the lunch menu, but looking at their dinner menu you can clearly see the use of Japanese ingredeints incorporated into the dishes. I’ll defnitely be back to try their dinner menu, especially since the pasta is house made (unfortuantely not for lunch).

Hey Jack! For weekend lunch I just walked in, no booking. But the restaurant isn’t big around 30 seats, so dinner time may be better to book. Enjoy 🙂
